Winds of Deviation

April 28, 2013

Seasonal deviations and Course corrections

It was amazing to find out that the bible is not silent about slave trade:

We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers—and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine (1 Timothy 1:9-10).

In the words of George Hamilton IV, “slaves worked on farms growing cotton to make white shirts for Christian folks to wear to church on Sunday,” whereas it is contrary to sound doctrine!

God’s men (the likes of William Wilberforce, Abraham Lincoln, and John Wesley) rose up against slave trade and today it is basically gone.

In our days, we have some deviations: homosexuality and greed.

It’s amazing how some people purport to be Christian leaders and go for gay when categorically bible is clear about it in the same verse that condemns slave trade (above). Quite interesting that another name for homosexuality is Sodomy–that was the reason for which Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed! Today the definition of the word is being tempered down, just as the word gay no longer means “merry, cheerful, or jolly.”

Greed! We have of big shots in our generation who stash away monies in countries with obscure names because the eagle is watching UK, USA, and Switzerland. Funds for generations of downlines are piped to Gibraltar, British Virgin Islands and Bermuda, seeming to fulfill: “Riches disappear in the blink of an eye; wealth sprouts wings and flies off into the wild blue yonder”–since we know the monies would never return!

How did Sodom fair with greed? “Sodom’s sins were pride, gluttony, and laziness, while the poor and needy suffered outside her door.” (Ezekiel 16:49)

The cycle goes on and on! Men who made legitimate wealth are not remembered two generations down the line, what then could be the fate of those who hoard illegitimate wealth? Crops of d deceivers mingle with godly people to plant evil character in God’s field. I imagine God saying as He once said: “Let them grow together FOR NOW!”

Twenty years ago, a homosexual was a fag; ten years ago, he was a homosexual; but today he is gay.

There is a cycle by which everything gets cleaned out: Ecclesiastes 1:6-7, 9

The wind blows to the south and turns to the north; round and round it goes, ever returning on its course. All streams flow into the sea, yet the sea is never full. To the place the streams come from, there they return again.
What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.

It is a matter of time, these too shall pass away; what is unnatural will die a natural death. However, it is important to know what one stands for or against, and why: so that we are not blown away by the winds of deviation!

I strongly believe God is saying something here. Just some 10 mins ago as I return from Sunday service, I suddenly started thinking of homosexuality and my conclusion was that it shall surely pass away in a ridiculous, repulsive, shameful manner and show of ignorance to every mankind or group currently propagating this sinful ways. And behold, I opened this blog to read the same content……this is a repetition of last week write-up as well. For sure, God is watching us. We really need to be careful and watch every action we take.

Lanre, Thanks for sharing this with your readers.
But is it just deviation – homosexuality ang greed? It all comes from apostasy, willful abandonement of our Maker! Homosexuality has taken on different names but it is essentially the same. May God spare us.
As for greed, it is the same in name and content, no variant. Only God can and will clean this odd world.

Interesting.Hadn’t seen the specific text regarding slave trading before ( though still wondering about the position of slave owners). Insightful post.

  4. 21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.

26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.
32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
